The Pirates began in 1882 as the Pittsburgh Alleghenys and were members of the American Association League. The owners eventually dumped the team which allowed them to sign players from other teams and leagues. This earned them the reputation and name of "Pirates". The Pittsburgh Pirates explores the history of the team, its greatest moments and members including Roberto Clemente, Barry Bonds, Honus Wagner, and Willie Stargell.
